What Happens During a Professional Beard Trim?
Our professional beard trim brings length, outline, and proportion together for a clean, confident finish. Tell us the look you want, and we will discuss the cheeks, neckline, mustache, and overall shape before your trim.
Tell us what a great beard looks like to you
A professional beard trim is about the entire shape: how the sides sit, how the chin frames your face, and how the mustache finishes the look. At Richmond Barbershop, we want that shape to feel distinctly yours. Start by telling us whether you want a tidy refresh, a shorter beard, or a new direction.
Bring a reference photo and point out the details you like. A rounded bottom, a natural cheek line, and shorter sides each communicate something different. If you are growing your beard, tell us which areas you want to preserve so length stays central to the conversation.
A photo of your own beard after a previous trim is especially useful. It gives us a clear starting point and helps you describe what made that look work for you.
Build a balanced shape around four details
We encourage you to think about each part of the beard individually. Keeping length at the chin does not mean the sides need the same fullness, and a neat mustache can still have character.
| Area | What we will discuss |
|---|---|
| Main length | The amount you want to retain and your preferred silhouette |
| Cheeks | A natural outline or a more defined edge |
| Neck | Placement and your preferred finish |
| Mustache | Fullness, lip clearance, and how you like to style it |
Tell us how you wear your beard during an ordinary day. If you like a carefully arranged finish, we can discuss that look. If you prefer a simpler routine, make that part of the brief. A polished beard should work with your habits as well as your appearance.
Our guide to choosing a beard shape helps you explore those options before your appointment.
Book your beard trim in Carytown
Our professional beard trim is $40. You can book it alongside a haircut for a coordinated haircut and beard appointment, or choose a beard trim on its own when the outline needs attention.
For a traditional shave experience, we also offer a hot towel straight razor shave as a separate service. Select the services you want in our booking menu so your reservation reflects the visit you have in mind.
We recommend appointments and welcome walk-ins when available. You will find us at 2820 W Cary St, Suite C, in Carytown. If you are visiting us for the first time, our first-visit guide covers the practical details.
Enjoy the finish beyond your appointment
Let us know about sensitive areas before your trim and tell us how close you like the neckline and cheek edges. Comfort belongs in the same conversation as shape and definition.
When reviewing the finished look, consider the front and both sides. Notice how the beard connects visually with your haircut and whether the mustache length feels right. This is also a good time to talk about your preferred combing direction and the finish you want to recreate each morning.
For daily care, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends cleansing the beard and skin, suitable moisturizing, and combing. We bring those everyday considerations into our beard maintenance guide, so you can keep your routine focused between professional trims.
Frequently asked questions
Can you tidy my beard without taking away its length?
Tell us where length matters most. A clear request such as preserving the chin while refining the overall outline gives us a useful starting point for your trim.
Do I need to know a beard style name?
No. Bring a reference or describe the shape you enjoy. We can discuss the individual details with you, from fullness at the sides to the way the mustache sits.
Can I book a haircut and beard trim together?
Yes. Select both services when booking your appointment with us. It is a straightforward way to refresh your full look and keep the haircut and beard working together.
